Purpose: Industries are creating vast amounts of side streams with many underutilised potentials that a circular economy could harness. Different types present various challenges and opportunities in terms their reuse. Thus, it would be beneficial for these industrial to categorised according properties affecting reuse potential. Study design/methodology/approach: The empirical data this multiple case study was gathered from industries Northern Ostrobothnia, Finland. Data collection included company visits, interviews, workshops, seminars, the existing documentation cases, collected by investigators. analysed using descriptive qualitative methods. Findings: Similarities between processes were found not originate either industry process is used or material process, but rather purpose on more general level. created categorisation divided based origin into residue materials, residual energy, energy production residues structural components.
